Teph's Tricks
I've made a few plug-in filters using Filter Factory. These filters are usable by Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop and any other paint program that can use *.8bf filter files. If you get errors about missing files or incorrect installations you are probably missing one of these DLLs in your windows/system directory.
To download a filter right click on the link and choose 'Save target as...' To install a filter just unzip it into your plug-ins directory (I recommend using a subdirectory called 'tephs') and start your paint program. Make sure your paint program is set up to search subdirectories for plug-ins!
Geometric - Transparency - Luminance
Transparency filters require an alpha channel to work (in PSP you must promote the background to a layer before applying them).
Red Transparency - Green Transparency - Blue Transparency
These filters use the color
value of a pixel to set the transparency of that pixel.
[Sample images have a pattern fill
layer under the layer the filter has been applied to in order to display the
effect.]

A similar effect that does not remove as much color is achieved with the Eliminate White filter or an inverse luminosity mask.
Inverse Red Transparency
- Inverse Green Transparency
Inverse Blue Transparency
These filters use the inverse
of the color value of a pixel to set the transparency of that pixel.
[Sample images have a pattern fill
layer under the layer the filter has been applied to in order to display the
effect.]

Dark to Transparent - Turn 'darkness' values transparent based on a sliding threshold value. The darkest color value for the pixel determines the opacity of the pixel. | |
Light to Transparent - Turn 'lightness' values transparent based on a sliding threshold value. The lightest color value for the pixel determines the opacity of the pixel. |
The following filters require an alpha trasparency in the layer to work.
Alpha Black - Converts transparent areas to black, opaque areas to white, and partially transparent areas to shades of grey. |
|
Alpha White - Converts transparent areas to white, opaque areas to black, and partially transparent areas to shades of grey. |
